TEHRAN - The Islamic Republic of Iran's Police Commander, Brigadier General Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said on Tuesday that maintaining security along the country's eastern border is not just the duty of the police.

Speaking at a gathering of commanders and other police forces, he added that the public and the officials should also contribute to the establishment of security, which he referred to as the prerequisite for any kind of development and investment in the country.

Qalibaf said that the police forces have been sent to the eastern borders in order to carry out the Val-Fajr Operation and will stay there until the region is completely secure.

Instability in the eastern regions of the country differs from that in Khorassan Province and the northwestern parts of the country, said Qalibaf, and those who intend to create problems should not be given the opportunity.

He also said he hoped that the police will be successful in establishing total security in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, saying that this is a duty the Supreme National Security Council has given them.
